What If?
August 16, 2025. I was talking with a client about the section 8 program in California today. The program is not attractive to housing providers. The recipients in the program have questionable incentive to maintain their rental units or pay the rent on time. That issue can be argued, but clearly there is a need for an attitude adjustment among housing providers. What if there were an incentive? Moving a mountain with your mind might be easier than initiating a change in a government program. (My opinion). But a change could be made almost instantly in the private sector. What if a trust account was set up for each renter at a property, (non section 8 and section 8 properties) by a housing provider (landlord) and a percentage of the rent each month was put into an interest bearing trust account set to compound, on behalf of the renter who takes care of their rental, follows building rules, and pays their portion of the rent on time?
