When I was a boy I had a little sailboat parked behind the boat my family lived on. There were some other kids my age in that marina, and they had little boats just like mine. We would race around, tip them over, swim, and sail our boats into narrow spaces and sail backward out of them. We would try all kinds of crazy things with our boats. When we saw tugboats pushing a ship into the docks that bordered the marina we would race towards them in a pack and rush into the turbulence. I remember the feeling of being tossed around in circles, completely at the will of whatever the water wanted to do to me, while someone on one of the tugboats yelled at us all. It was dangerous. We all had a plan, though, one that a group of twelve-year-olds with more confidence than fear could concoct. Should any one of us be thrown into the water we would swim down into the turbulence, deep enough to escape its intensity, then find an opening and swim back to the surface.
I have some turbulence in my business right now. It’s on the surface. It doesn’t go so deep that I cannot swim under it with some creative thinking. It doesn’t go so deep that I cannot go under it with some effort. I just have to go deep enough to escape its intensity, then find an opening and swim back to the surface.
